Our Mission History
The Menard County Soil and Water Conservation District was established on May 26, 1944. A Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is a governmental body created by state law for the express purpose of promoting the protection and conservation of the counties' and states' soil, water, and related resources. The Soil and Water Conservation Districts Act (70 ILCS 405/3.01) defines districts as"...a public body corporate and politic..." Although an SWCD is a governmental body, it is not a branch of federal, state, or county government. Each SWCD is a local governmental entity and is very similar to a school district. Classified as a "local unit of government," SWCD's are NOT and DO NOT have "Not for Profit" status unless applied for.
Our vision for the District is to be committed to a better environment by taking the lead to be the premier and best respected office through teamwork involving the community and directors. ![]() Contact Information
